This is the inaugural post of the Math blog! I am Barb Wagner, Numeracy Support teacher for the School District. I have taught for a long time in this district and now get to share my math passions with more people.
I thought I would start off with a definition of Numeracy because all our conversations will be centered around numeracy and how to help our students become more numerate.
BC defines it as:
Numeracy is the willingness and ability to interpret and apply mathematical understanding to solve problems in complex situations, and the perseverance to analyze and communicate these solutions in ways that are relevant to the given context.
